GN30 Outdoor High Voltage Disconnect Switch
1. Product Overview
GN30 outdoor high voltage disconnect switch is a high-voltage primary switching component widely used in outdoor substations, pole-mounted distribution systems, transformer stations and overhead line networks. It is mainly used to create a visible isolation breakpoint in high voltage circuits, so that maintenance, inspection and equipment replacement can be carried out safely.
This outdoor isolator can be installed on metal poles, support frames or substation structures. It generally consists of a metal base, support insulators, fixed contacts, moving blades, operating lever and connection terminals. With simple structure, reliable mechanical operation and clear isolation status, it is suitable for 10kV outdoor power distribution systems.
2. Main Features

4. Structure Description
| Part | Function |
| Metal Base | Supports the whole switch and provides installation interface |
| Support Insulator | Provides electrical insulation between high voltage parts and base |
| Fixed Contact | Establishes stable electrical connection in closed position |
| Moving Blade | Connects or disconnects the circuit through opening and closing movement |
| Operating Lever | Allows manual operation to open or close the switch |
| Connection Terminal | Connects to overhead line, busbar or transformer equipment |
| Locking Device | Keeps the switch in open or closed position during operation |
5. Working Principle
The GN30 disconnect switch operates through mechanical opening and closing of the moving blade. When the switch is closed, the moving blade makes contact with the fixed contact, and the high voltage circuit is connected. When the switch is opened, the blade moves away from the fixed contact, creating a clear visible isolation gap.
Because the disconnect switch does not have built-in arc extinguishing device, it is generally used to isolate the circuit after the load is cut off by a circuit breaker or load switch. Its main function is to provide a visible break point for maintenance safety, rather than breaking normal load current under arc conditions.
6. Application Scope
GN30 outdoor disconnect switch is commonly used in:
- 10kV overhead line systems
- Outdoor substations
- Pole-mounted transformer stations
- Distribution transformer protection points
- Ring main units and feeder lines
- Maintenance safety isolation points
- Industrial power distribution outdoor stations
- Municipal power grid renovation projects
- Renewable energy power collection lines
7. Installation Instructions
- Before installation, check the switch body, insulators, contacts, operating lever and mounting hardware for damage.
- Verify the model, rated voltage, rated current and installation method according to the project requirements.
- Install the switch on a rigid metal pole, support frame or substation structure.
- Ensure sufficient safety clearance between the switch and other live parts or grounding objects.
- Connect the incoming and outgoing terminals firmly to the overhead line, busbar or transformer equipment.
- Adjust the operating mechanism to ensure smooth opening and closing.
- Confirm that the open position provides a clear visible isolation gap.
- After installation, perform insulation test, contact check and operation test before commissioning.
8. Safety Warnings
- Installation, operation and maintenance must be performed by qualified electrical personnel.
- Do not operate the disconnect switch while the circuit breaker or load switch is closed.
- Do not open or close load current with the disconnect switch unless the design specifically allows it.
- Before maintenance, confirm that all upstream power supplies are cut off and the isolation gap is clearly visible.
- Keep the operating lever in a locked or tagged position during maintenance.
- If insulators are cracked, contacts are burned or mechanical operation is blocked, stop using the switch immediately.
- Keep the product nameplate, wiring diagram and technical documents for future reference.
